This great Hacienda is located in Marfil 10m. from the center of the beautiful city of Guanajuato, in the state of the same name. This Hacienda was once owned by Don Francisco de P. Castañeda owner of "Casa de Moneda" which open in July 1791. This Hacienda is part of the group of Haciendas of "Beneficio de la Plata" that riced during the XVIII century before becoming a ghost town a century later do to the decadence of the mining industry, floods and sloth. And that is how Marfil begun to slowly fade in to the past, untouched.
Then in the late nineteen fifty´s the Italian architect Giorgio Belloli came back to Guanajuato with the intention of restoring and selling the hacienda in different parts.
The bigger part of this Hacienda "La Cupula" was purchased by American illustrator Garth Williams, image creator of Charlotte´s Web, Stuart little and Laura Ingalls Wider´s Little House series of books.
Mr. Williams took on the challenge to restore this Hacienda to his personal taste with the help of Giorgio.
